Sam Darnold Responds to Panthers Pursuing Other Quarterbacks

The Carolina Panthers made it clear this offseason they wanted to add a quarterback. After missing out on trades for big-name QBs like Deshaun Watson, the team is now meeting with the top prospects at the position ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Carolina's persistent efforts leave current signal-caller Sam Darnold in an awkward spot, and he's responded to the rumors involving his team.

Darnold appears unshaken by the Panthers trying to replace him. The former No. 3 overall pick believes in his abilities enough that he's not worried about another QB coming in.
"I have enough security in myself to where I can be like, 'I know I'm a good quarterback. I know I can be a good quarterback in this league. I've proved it.' And I know there's a team, if something happens, that would want me.
- Sam Darnold
It's interesting to hear Darnold says "I know there's a team ... that would want me" should he be supplanted in Carolina. That could be him banking on another opportunity blindly, or perhaps he has heard from another organization that would like to bring him in.
Whatever the Panthers end up doing with the No. 6 pick in this year's draft will likely indicate what direction the team will go at quarterback. Pitt's Kenny Pickett and Liberty's Malik Willis have emerged as the clear-cut top two at the position, and Carolina has upcoming visits scheduled with both of them.
It seems like Darnold will be fighting for his job one way or another in training camp this offseason.
