As the 2021 MLB season winds down, Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez continues to shine. It's more of the same for Perez, seven All-Star appearances in his last eight seasons, all with the Royals. But, the 2021 season has been a career-year from a power perspective and the long-time Royal is on the verge of MLB history.

Perez clobbered his 42nd home run of the 2021 season in Wednesday night's loss to the Baltimore Orioles. This home run puts him just three shy from tying the all-time single-season record for home runs by a catcher. That's held by Hall of Fame talent Johnny Bench, who clobbered 45 long balls in 1970 with the Cincinnati Reds.

Not only is Perez's impressive power flex chasing MLB history, but he's also on the verge of several franchise milestones. Deservingly so, given the veteran backstop has spent the entirety of 10-year MLB career in Kansas City.

Perez is now 7 home runs shy of breaking the Royals all-time single-season home run record of 48, set by Jorge Soler in 2019. The slugger also owns 194 career home runs, which puts him just four shy of passing Mike Sweeney (197) for second-place on the Royals all-time home run leaderboard.

George Brett holds the franchise record of 317 career home runs as a Royal.

These MLB milestones are definitely worth keeping an eye on down the stretch. For Perez, just keep doing what you're doing out there on the diamond. Perez holds +15000 odds to win American League MVP on FanDuel Sportsbook.
