It was Jameis Winston's potential season-ending injury, and not the reunion factor, that stole all the headlines of Sunday's clash between the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Rumors began flying immediately about quarterbacks the Saints could replace their Pro Bowl quarterback with. However, the Saints will not be pursuing the most popular name offered up across NFL circles.

Jameis Winston Replacement

According to sources, New Orleans will not push to add free-agent quarterback Cam Newton in the wake of Winston's injury.

It's unclear if the Saints will rock with Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian, or seek other available options, but Newton won't be coming to New Orleans.

Another former Pro Bowl quarterback, Newton began his year with the New England Patriots. Rookie Mac Jones quickly won the job before Newton played a single game in 2021 and the Patriots eventually released him.

Hill battled Winston throughout the preseason for the starting role. He was held out of Sunday's contest with a concussion and third-stringer Siemian helped New Orleans pull off a shocking 36-27 victory over Tampa Bay, going 16-for-29 for 159 yards and 1 touchdown.

New Orleans heads into Week 9 of the NFL season with a matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. The Saints are favored by 5.5 points on FanDuel Sportsbook.
