The New Orleans Saints are on the search for a worthy successor to Sean Payton following his retirement. New Orleans' top reputation around the league has allowed them to interview several big names for this opening, though in-house options remain strong contenders as well.
It sounds like this search could be over after one candidate's lengthy interview with the team.
Eric Bieniemy Saints
Current Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy had a nearly eight-hour in-person interview with the Saints on Sunday, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
The length of an interview isn't a deciding factor, though it showcases New Orleans' interest in the Chiefs' OC. Several other candidates this offseason have gotten job offers following extended talks with prospective teams, like Nathaniel Hackett with the Denver Broncos...
...and Mike McDaniel with the Miami Dolphins.
It at least appears that Bieniemy is a serious candidate to become the Saints' next head coach. Jeff Duncan of the Times-Picayune gives the current KC coordinator hypothetical 12/1 odds to get the job, trailing current New Orleans DC Dennis Allen (8/5) and Aaron Glenn (5/1).
Duncan also added that it's possible Mickey Loomis and company don't hold second interviews, with a decision coming as early as Tuesday.
Hosting Bieniemy for as long as they did could certainly work in his favor, though the Jim Harbaugh-Minnesota Vikings situation shows an all-day interview doesn't always lead to a job offer.
This situation is one to keep a close eye on as a hiring decision looms.
