Saints Grab Exciting Playmaker in Todd McShay's Latest 2022 NFL Mock Draft

The New Orleans Saints find themselves tangled up in all kinds of quarterback rumors heading into the offseason. No one knows if new head coach Dennis Allen truly wants to roll with Taysom Hill or not. Todd McShay projects the Saints to add at another name to the mix in his latest 2022 mock draft.

Saints Mock Draft
McShay has New Orleans swinging for the fences by taking quarterback Matt Corral at No. 18 overall. The Ole Miss standout is the third QB taken off the board after Kenny Pickett landed with the Washington Commanders at No. 11 and he sees the Pittsburgh Steelers trading up for Malik Willis at No. 17. Using a first-round pick on a signal-caller is a bold move.
Corral would have a ton of upside playing in a Saints offense catered around a mobile QB. The 23-year-old shined with the Rebels in college by completing 67.3% of his pass attempts for 8,281 yards and 57 touchdowns (37 games played). He also added 1,338 yards and 18 scores on the ground.
Of course, drafting Corral would mean that the team is not fully sold on the idea of Hill taking on a full-time gig. The fifth-year pro has posted a 7-2 record as a starter, yet his lack of experience has to be a concern. A couple of reports link the Saints to re-signing free agent quarterback Jameis Winston as well.
Corral's arm strength alone makes him one of the most intriguing prospects in this draft class and he has proven to be capable of slinging the football down the field. Whether or not that will be with the Saints remains to be seen as the NFL Draft is slated to begin on Thursday, April 28.
