Michael Thomas is one of the most talented wide receivers to step foot on an NFL field over the last few decades. Unfortunately, injuries in recent years have kept him on the sidelines more often than not. That trend continued in 2022 as Thomas played just three games for the New Orleans Saints before suffering a season-ending foot injury in Week 3.

With the offseason firmly underway, Saints fans are wondering how Thomas' recovery is progressing. Unfortunately, head coach Dennis Allen's latest update on the talented pass-catcher is far from encouraging.

Michael Thomas Injury Update

Allen told reporters on Tuesday that Thomas is "not quite 100%, but getting closer," per Saints insider Nick Underhill. The New Orleans bench boss also said that he expects Thomas to be ready "at some point this offseason."

While it's good to hear that Thomas' injury hasn't worsened, the fact that it happened in September and he's still not at 100% yet is concerning. After all, "getting closer" to playing is something that Saints fans heard a lot when Thomas dealt with an ankle injury in 2021 — a season where he didn't even play one game.

Thomas showed his ceiling when he paced the NFL in both catches and receiving yards in 2019, but he's only appeared in 10 games since then. New Orleans' aerial attack has taken a hit without the former All-Pro, finishing No. 19, No. 32 and No. 16 in passing yards since 2020 after finishing No. 7 in his last full season.

This year could be make-or-break for Thomas. The Saints signed the 30-year-old to a one-year, $10 million deal earlier this month, but it's hard to imagine them offering him another if he can't stay healthy this season.

Hopefully Thomas makes a full recovery, because the NFL is better with him than without.

Saints Super Bowl Odds

The Saints are currently tied with the Denver Broncos for the 14th-best odds to win Super Bowl LVIII, per FanDuel Sportsbook. If New Orleans is to capitalize on those odds, Thomas must be more available than he has been in the previous three years combined.
