The New Orleans Saints continue an uphill battle with their salary cap at the start of the NFL offseason. New Orleans pulled off a savvy move to clear approximately $4.856 million of Marcus Maye's contract to cap space, but they have a long road ahead.

As of now, the Saints are still more than $44 million over the cap. On Monday, the front office pulled off another smart maneuver.

According to NFL insider Field Yates, New Orleans converted $10 million of center Erik McCoy's contract into a signing bonus for 2023. This creates about $8 million more in cap space next season.

Based on the current projections, this moves the Saints from $44.3 million over the cap to $36.3 million over. In addition to the move to convert $10 million of McCoy's contract into a signing bonus, the Saints also added a void year to his deal.

McCoy started all 13 of the games he appeared in last season, recording just 5 penalties across nearly 800 offensive snaps.
