The New Orleans Saints fell to a division rival in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a score of 30-20 in the Divisional Round of the playoffs last season. They head into the offseason with their eyes set on winning the division once again, but will need to make some key free agency signings to do so.

One player the Saints should target is a former Buccaneer in defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches. The Saints are losing multiple players along their defensive line and need to make moves to address that. Plus, signing Nunez-Roches would block the Buccaneers from doing so.

Rakeem Nunez-Roches Free Agency

While Nunez-Roches isn't exactly a household name in the NFL, he has quietly become a very productive defensive lineman for the Buccaneers. He played in all 16 games for Tampa Bay last season and racked up 20 tackles as well as 3 quarterback hits. He was part of a strong run defense and didn't miss a single tackle.

The Saints are set to lose two impactful players to free agency in defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins and defensive end Trey Hendrickson. New Orleans also has one of the trickiest cap space situations in the league, so signing a cheap player like Nunez-Roches may be the best way to fill out the defensive line.

Nunez-Roches likely wants to go to a team in which he can have a meaningful role and the Saints can provide that. Plus, head coach Sean Payton knows that taking a player away from a team that just won the Super Bowl can help the Saints out in more ways than one.
