The New Orleans Saints enter the 2021 season with high hopes, but still have a few holes to address on the roster. They would be smart to add depth in the secondary and general manager Mickey Loomis said that the cornerback position remains an area of focus as the offseason rolls on.

However, it isn't going to be easy as the Saints' cap space situation is certainly less than ideal. They will need to search the market for a cheap deal or two. With that being said, here are three cornerbacks New Orleans needs to sign.

New Orleans Saints Rumors

1. Richard Sherman

The top cornerback on the market right now remains Richard Sherman. The 10-year pro is reportedly looking to join a contending team and the Saints fit that bill. Although Sherman is now 33 years old, the veteran ballhawk would bring invaluable experience and knowledge to this young secondary. He already has a connection with rookie Paulson Adebo and would fit in well alongside star corner Marshon Lattimore. Sherman has posted 4 interceptions and 12 pass breakups since the start of the 2019 season. New Orleans should look into signing him as long as Sherman is willing to take a bit of a discount.

2. D.J. Hayden

The Saints could also opt to take a chance on a cheap player with a lot of upside like D.J. Hayden instead. Hayden missed most 2020 season due to a knee injury, but was impressive back in 2019. In fact, the eight-year pro racked up 41 tackles, 2.0 sacks and 6 pass breakups in just 8 starts with the Jacksonville Jaguars that season. Hayden should be motivated to prove he still has what it takes to contribute on a winning team and would be a solid addition for New Orleans. He would likely be open to signing a short-term contract, too.

3. Brian Poole

It is surprising to see Brian Poole without a team this late in the offseason given his recent production. Poole has totaled 3 interceptions, 12 pass breakups and 103 tackles over the last two seasons. He mainly plays in the slot corner position and the Saints have the depth up top needed to man the outside. The 28-year-old was reportedly looking to sign a long-term contract, but that possibility is becoming less and less likely by the day. The Saints should take advantage of this opportunity and scoop Poole up before another NFL team does.
