The 2022 NFL season is less than a week away from starting and the New Orleans Saints hope the new campaign goes better than the last one. Even with the offseason improvements that the Saints, they still have their fair share of doubters out there.

The Athletic released NFC power rankings dictated by anonymous NFL execs and things aren't looking good for New Orleans. The Saints are ranked No. 10 on the rankings, coming behind fellow NFC South teams such as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (No. 3) and Carolina Panthers (No. 9).

NFC Power Rankings

One thing to make note of is that the Saints received a wide variety of votes. One executive had Dennis Allen's squad as the sixth-best NFC team, while another had them all the way at No. 13. Regardless, the final ranking is quite disrespectful.

The Saints have the potential to surprise a lot of people this season. Injuries to key players like Michael Thomas and Jameis Winston were why New Orleans underperformed in 2022. With the duo being healthier, along with additions like Jarvis Landry and Chris Olave, opponents would be wise not to underestimate the Saints.

It's also important to point out that the Saints won both of last season's games against the Buccaneers — the reigning NFC South champions. A bottom-feeder wouldn't have been able to accomplish that and if Tom Brady finally regresses, the Saints could be a dark horse to win the division.

At the end of the day, a few executives' opinions won't dictate how the Saints' season will unfold. That'll be decided on the gridiron, which is a place where New Orleans has grown accustomed to proving its doubters wrong.

Saints Super Bowl Odds

It looks like NFL executives aren't the only ones with concerns about the Saints. They currently have just +4000 odds to win Super Bowl LVII on FanDuel Sportsbook, putting them in a five-way tie for the 17th-best odds across the league.
