The New Orleans Saints look to rebound from their Week 2 loss when they face the rival Carolina Panthers in a road matchup on Sunday. While the Panthers aren't the toughest challenge, winning could be tougher for the Saints following injury updates to a pair of key defenders on Friday.

Alontae Taylor Injury Update

Saints insider Nick Underhill reports that rookie cornerback Alontae Taylor was absent from Friday's practice. The 2022 second-round selection's health has declined over the last week, going from being a full participant on Wednesday to limited on Thursday to complete absent Friday.

After spending his Week 1 debut on special teams, Taylor played 19 defensive snaps last week. He broke up the only target sent his way and while that's a small sample size, he is expected to be a major player in New Orleans' secondary for years to come.

Unless a miraculous recovery happens between now and Sunday, chances are Taylor will record his first missed NFL game.

Marcus Maye Injury Update

Underhill also adds that strong safety Marcus Maye was "extremely limited" for Friday's session. The veteran defender exited last week's contest with a rib injury but somehow picked up a rib issue since then, causing him to be limited at practice all week.

A torn Achilles limited Maye to just nine games with the New York Jets last year, so it's easy to see why Saints fans are worried about him. New Orleans signed him to a three-year, $28.5 million deal this offseason to help bolster the secondary, so he'll be missed in the case of any potential absence.

Saints vs Panthers Odds

Even with their injury woes, things are looking promising for the Saints this weekend. New Orleans is the current 2.5-point favorite over Carolina with -115 odds to cover the spread, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
