Russell Wilson is nursing a shoulder injury, and the early signs are not encouraging. He received platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections before last week's game against the Indianapolis Colts, and he turned in a stinker, going 21-of-39 with 0 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
Always one to give upbeat and team-first responses in press conferences, Wilson refused to even call this issue an injury on Thursday.
Whatever Wilson wants to call it, and however much he wants to put on a tough face, this has to be a concern for Broncos fans.
Wilson posted a season-low 4.72 adjusted yards per pass attempt (AY/A) in the loss to the Colts, leading the Broncos to a season-low 9 points. And that was against a defense that hadn't given up fewer than 17 points in any of their first four games, including allowing 20-plus to the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans.
Head coach Nathaniel Hackett doesn't seem too concerned about the issue either, praising Wilson's road to recovery. But even Hackett's comments seem to indicate that Russ isn't healthy yet.
"Is doing an amazing job" indicates this is an ongoing issue, and it's one that could have the Broncos fighting an uphill battle against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night.
FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds have the Broncos as 4.5-point road underdogs in that one, and the under on Wilson's passing yardage prop could be very interesting once it's released closer to Monday.
