The Kansas City Royals would like the franchise's current rebuild to take a step in the right direction during the 2022 MLB season, considering the team has finished fourth or fifth in the AL Central in four straight seasons. The Royals finished with a 74-88 record in 2021 despite the resurgent and historic season from catcher Salvador Perez.

Unfortunately, projected win totals released on FanDuel Sportsbook expect more of the same coming in Kansas City. The Royals' win total mark in set at 74.5, with +102 odds on the over and -124 odds on the under. They also have odds set at +2000 to win the AL Central division.

Kansas City Royals Projected Win Total

Kansas City didn't make any big splashes this offseason, instead opting for a few more minor moves such as bringing back Zack Greinke and adding Amir Garrett in the bullpen. That's all part of the rebuilding plan, but the oddsmakers seem to be disrespecting that in a big way.

The Royals' win total ranks last in the division and just 22nd across the league. While there may be questions around outfield depth and pitching, the key pieces from last year's 74-win team are there. This list includes Perez, Whit Merrifield and Andrew Benintendi among others.

Kansas City also played quite well against the division a year ago, posting winning records against every team save the Cleveland Guardians. This included a 10-9 record against the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins, and 11-8 against the Detroit Tigers. The 5-14 record against Cleveland seemed like an aberration, and Cleveland did nothing to improve this offseason except shave their payroll.

The emergence of Bobby Witt Jr. is the brightest spot for this team. Baseball's No. 1 prospect will be at the big league level at some point this season, maybe even by Opening Day. With a nice mix of veterans and promising young talent, Kansas City has an opportunity to make some noise in an otherwise weak division.
