Royals Avoid Arbitration With Speedy Infielder

The last few months have brought sweeping changes for the Kansas City Royals, who will have a new GM and manager for the 2023 season. This roster is due for a few shakeups as well after the team finished last in the AL Central in 2022.
On Tuesday, however, it was revealed that Kansas City is bringing back a veteran infielder.

The Royals have signed Adalberto Mondsei to a contract for the 2023 campaign, avoiding arbitration in the process. Lynn Worthy of the Kansas City Star reports Mondesi will make $3.045 million on his new deal.
The 27-year-old remains a polarizing figure considering his obvious talent but major health issues. Mondesi was once one of the top prospects in MLB and led the majors in steals as recently as 2020, but injuries have since derailed his career, limiting him to just 50 games over the past two seasons combined.
If the veteran can avoid the injury bug in 2023, he could still have an impact on this club. Kansas City making him one of its first significant signings of the winter at least points to confidence in his health for the upcoming season.
