Just when NBA fans thought the earth-shattering transactions had largely come and gone, Adrian Wojnarowski dropped another Woj bomb. Thursday night, the Houston Rockets traded Chris Paul, two first-round picks and two pick swaps to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Russell Westbrook.
Of course, this trade reunites Westbrook with his former running mate in OKC, James Harden. And the trade also had a pretty massive effect on the Rockets' odds to win the 2019-20 NBA Finals, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Prior to the trade, the Rockets were listed at +1500 to win the 2019-20 NBA Finals. However, with Westbrook now in Houston, the Rockets are available at +800. That's some pretty significant movement, and it indicates that the oddsmakers are confident that Westbrook and Harden will pair nicely together.
On the other hand, the Thunder were +6500 to win the NBA Finals before the trade, but they've since fallen to +160000. Considering the Thunder are now in a full-on rebuild, these odds are hard to argue with.
While Westbrook and Harden should make for an elite duo, the Rockets will have to contend with other Western Conference juggernauts like the Los Angeles Clippers (+320), the Los Angeles Lakers (+480) and the Golden State Warriors (+1500).
Even though the Clippers are currently the favorites win the 2019 title, a duo like Westbrook and Harden could give both LA teams a run for their money.
