The NL Central division title may be out of reach, but the Cincinnati Reds are very much alive in the Wild Card race. Cincinnati sits just 1.5 games back from the second Wild Card spot and aims to earn their second consecutive postseason appearance.

One piece of the Reds lineup, All-Star outfielder Jesse Winker, will be a vital part of this postseason push. Unfortunately, the Reds got some devastating news with Winker's latest injury update.

Jesse Winker Injury Update

On Monday, the franchise announced that Winker was headed to the 10-day injured list with an intercostal strain. But, the news appears to be getting worse after Reds manager David Bell shared he does not expect Winker to be ready by the end of the 10-day time frame.

Ultimately, this looks like an extended term on the injured list and out of the Reds' lineup. Winker's bat will be sorely missed as he's slashing .307/.395/.560 with an NL-leading 32 doubles alongside 24 home runs and 71 RBIs.

Cincinnati has no games remaining against the San Diego Padres, the team they trail for the second NL Wild Card spot. But, with 40 games left in the regular season, there's plenty of time to make up the 1.5-game deficit. Regardless, getting their All-Star outfielder and best hitter back will be vital to this team's success.

Currently, the Reds own +1900 odds to win the NL Central and +5500 odds to win the 2021 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
