The Boston Red Sox have been busy lately trimming the edges of their roster ahead of Spring Training. After signing Justin Turner last week, the team opted to DFA reliever Darwinzon Hernandez for assignment to clear a roster spot for the former.

Now Boston has shipped the pitcher to a division rival via trade.

The Red Sox sent Hernandez to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for cash considerations. Baltimore DFA'd Lewin Diaz in order to make room for the reliever.

This deal officially ends Hernandez's run in Boston. He entered the majors with the Sox back in 2019 and went on to record 91 appearances overall with the team over four seasons. The 2022 campaign was a disaster for him, though, as he posted a whopping 21.60 ERA after giving up 16 earned runs in just 6.2 innings.

At just 26-years-old, Hernandez still could have untapped potential waiting to be discovered. The Orioles will take an extended look at him this spring to find out.
