Although this has largely been a season to forget for the Boston Red Sox, the final stretch offers an important opportunity for the franchise's next wave of stars. That's exactly what happened on Sunday when top prospect Triston Casas was promoted to make his long awaited MLB debut against the Texas Rangers.
Casas and his squad will gear up for a first pitch at 1:35 p.m. ET from Fenway Park.
Triston Casas Debut
Red Sox insider Julian McWilliams reported the club sent down Bobby Dalbec to make room for the No. 2 prospect in Boston's minor leagues.
This promotion/demotion is a tale of two sides. As recently as 2020, Dalbec was ranked No. 3 in MLB.com's list of top Red Sox prospects. Dalbec has been a major disappointment, slashing just .231/.298/.454 across 267 games, including just 11 home runs in 111 games this season.
Both players are primary first baseman although Casas swings from the left side of the plate.
Red Sox News
The Red Sox drafted Casas with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2018 draft and the power-swinging lefty has done nothing but smash in the minor leagues since. Casas is hitting .281/.389/.500 with 12 home runs and 41 RBIs in just 76 minor league games this season.
Casas will be batting sixth and playing first base for his MLB debut on Sunday.
Heading into the matchup, the Red Sox look finish off a four-game series sweep against the Rangers. FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds show Boston -120 moneyline favorites.
