The Boston Red Sox have clawed their way back to being an above-.500 club after a slow start to the 2022 MLB season. The final American League wild card spot is still 3.5 games out of their grasp, which leaves the Red Sox looking for some additional help ahead of August's trade deadline.

One area that Boston could improve upon is its starting rotation, which has been marred by injuries. To address that issue,'s Mark Feinsand has Cincinnati Reds right-handed starter Luis Castillo as a good trade fit for the Red Sox.

Boston Red Sox Trade Rumors

The sooner Boston address its starting pitching needs, the better. They already have six pitchers on the injured list, including Chris Sale (who's yet to make his 2022 debut), James Paxton and Nathan Eovaldi. Failure to promptly fix the situation could result in a bigger hole to climb out of.

Even though the Reds have been one of the worst teams this season, Castillo has been a bright spot. Going 2-4 in seven starts so far, the 29-year-old has pitched to a 3.23 ERA and 1.128 WHIP while striking out 8.5 batters per nine innings.

He doesn't have a ton of postseason experience under his belt, but he did look strong in his sole start during the 2020 Wild Card round, allowing one run on six hits while striking out seven batters over 5.1 innings in a losing effort to the Atlanta Braves.

Not only would Castillo help Boston right now, but he'd also strengthen the backend of the rotation once the team's sidelined starters return. Add in the fact that he'll still be arbitration-eligible for one more season and there's plenty to like in a potential trade.
