The Boston Red Sox fit the mold of a trade deadline buyer considering they currently hold an AL Wild Card spot (43-33) and are in need of a few upgrades. They would have to trade players to acquire players, though, and insider Chad Jennings expects the team to part with a top prospect as a result.
Boston Red Sox Trade Rumors
Jennings highlighted the idea of Boston dangling pitcher Connor Seabold in the market in return for a reliable reliever. The Red Sox have posted the sixth-highest WHIP of any AL bullpen and have seen seven different pitchers earn a save in 2022. Addressing that position is becoming more of a must.
Boston likely doesn't want to go all-in right now and trade its top farm talent, so dealing its No. 14 prospect would make a lot of sense. Seabold didn't fare too well in his lone MLB start (7 ER, 4.2 innings) in 2022, but his success at the Triple-A level has to be enticing for a rebuilding team.
The 26-year-old has had no trouble sitting down opposing hitters for the Worchester Red Sox, posting a 5-1 record and 2.26 ERA across 11 starts. Seabold has also logged an impressive 0.99 WHIP and has racked up 51 strikeouts in 51.2 innings. He is easily outperforming expectations.
With Boston's depth at starting pitching, Seabold could be the odd man out once trade talks intensify in July. He may not bring back the most valuable return, but there's also little risk involved. For now, the Red Sox have odds set at +3200 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
