Although the deal was announced back in mid-December, the Boston Red Sox made their Justin Turner signing official on Friday. Boston brought in the two-time All-Star for a one-year deal, with a player option in 2024.
In order to make room for Turner on the roster, Boston announced they designated a veteran reliever for assignment.
According to insider Peter Abraham, the team DFA'd Darwinzon Hernandez.
Hernandez has spent the entirety of his MLB career with the Red Sox, dating back to 2019. He enjoyed a highly successful 2021 campaign by pitching to a 3.38 ERA across 48 appearances. The results did not last.
In 2022, Hernandez made only 7 appearances with a putrid 21.60 ERA. He spent the majority of this year with Triple-A, garnering just a 5.73 ERA in 33 innings.
