Ravens Sign Veteran Running Back in Free Agency

The Baltimore Ravens' 2021 season was mired by major injuries to key players, especially in the backfield. The losses of J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards before Week 1 led to a hodgepodge group of running backs being depended on as a featured part of the Ravens' run-heavy offense.
After those injury troubles, Baltimore is being proactive about its backfield depth, signing a productive veteran who was recently released.

Mike Davis Ravens
Seven-year pro Mike Davis is joining the Ravens after briefly being a free agent. He provides this backfield a dependable body to lean on as Dobbins and Edwards get back to 100%.
The 2021 season didn't go as planned for Davis, who was unseated as a starter despite a barren Atlanta Falcons RB room. He still managed to record 503 yards on 138 attempts, along with 3 touchdowns. He also hauled in 44 receptions for 259 yards and 1 TD.
Davis shouldered the load for the Carolina Panthers in 2020 (1,015 yards from scrimmage, 8 total TDs) when starter Christian McCaffrey went down, so he's more than capable of taking the early-season reps as Dobbins and Edwards get back to game shape.
Though it's not a flashy signing, this is a great move for Baltimore that ensures its two stud RBs won't need to rush themselves back if they're not ready to start the season.
