Heading into the season, the AFC West looked like the most competitive division in football. That hasn't been the case, however, as both the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders have been horrendous this year. Denver's Nathaniel Hackett and Las Vegas' Josh McDaniels are both likely on the hot seat, especially McDaniels.

Las Vegas gifted him with a few stellar offseason moves (Davante Adams, Chandler Jones) for a roster that already went 10-7 and made the playoffs in 2021. Instead of improving or at least staying the same, however, they've taken a massive step back, going 2-7 to start the year as McDaniels has floundered.

Unfortunately for Las Vegas, the former New England Patriots offensive coordinator is here to stay. NFL insider Dov Kleiman revealed an embarrassing reason the franchise plans to keep him around.

Josh McDaniels News

According to a report, the Raiders "don't have the money" to fire McDaniels at this point in the season. Bill Plaschke indicates the team is "cash poor" and "can't afford to fire McDaniels and then pay another coach."

Plaschke said that McDaniels will likely return in 2023 as well. He signed a four-year deal with the franchise this past offseason, so the team is unlikely to fire him so early into that commitment.

As it stands, the Raiders have -8000 odds to miss the playoffs according to the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
