The Las Vegas Raiders' puzzling 2021 offseason continues. After gutting the offensive line, by trading Gabe Jackson and Rodney Hudson, the team has elected to sign former Arizona Cardinals' RB Kenyan Drake. He's coming to Las Vegas on a two-year deal that could be worth as much as $14.5 million.
The decision to invest this much at RB is a bit of a head-scratcher, but Drake figures to be an excellent complement to incumbent starter Josh Jacobs.
Kenyan Drake Raiders
Where Jacobs shines as a traditional, between-the-tackles runner, Drake is a much more modern NFL RB. He can handle the rock, contribute in the passing game and block when called upon. Essentially, he should be able to cover up for the weaker parts of Jacobs' game.
Jacobs has also dealt with injuries in each of his two NFL seasons, while Drake has been more reliable in that department. He should have no trouble stepping in if Jacobs goes down again.
Whether it's worth investing this much at the position is a bit of a different story, but there's no doubt Drake will be able to help the Raiders in 2021.
