Raiders Add Cornerback Depth After Anthony Averett Injury

The Las Vegas Raiders will be down a key player in the secondary moving forward as cornerback Anthony Averett suffered a broken thumb against the Los Angeles Chargers. The 27-year-old will miss at least a month of action and is a candidate to be placed on the injured reserve this week.
Averett joined the Raiders as a free agent signing this past March and played in 34 snaps before going down in Week 1. He was expected to be a rotational option in a veteran CB group after racking up 54 tackles, 11 pass breakups and 3 interceptions with the Baltimore Ravens in 2021 (14 games).

Las Vegas Raiders News
Averett's injury opened the door for Nickell Robey-Coleman to find a home in Las Vegas. The Raiders signed the six-year corner on Monday in a move to build some much-needed depth. Robey-Coleman last appeared in the NFL with the Detroit Lions during the 2021 season, playing in one game.
Robey-Coleman has racked up 338 tackles (24 for loss), 49 pass breakups, six interceptions, six forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries in a total of 127 career games. His knack for finding the football could come in handy for a Raiders team that logged the third-fewest takeaways in 2021 (15).
Keep in mind the Raiders made a surprising move to trade cornerback Trayvon Mullen to the Arizona Cardinals shortly before the regular season began. The 2019 second-round pick out of Clemson was exchanged for a conditional draft pick in 2023 in a move that left Las Vegas without a quality backup.
The Raiders have odds set at +4400 to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
