The Pittsburgh Pirates are already looking toward the 2022 season and that includes taking full stock of their Minor League system. That process continues on Saturday after the Pirates announced one of their top prospects will make his MLB debut on Saturday against the Cincinnati Reds.

Shortstop Oneil Cruz will be starting and batting 8th in the Pirates' lineup on Saturday night.

Cruz is currently listed as the Pirates' No. 3 overall prospect, according to MLB.com's official prospect rankings. Of the Pirates' top-10 prospects list, Cruz has been one of the furthest developed including No. 6 Roansy Contreras, No. 9 Tucupita Marcano and No. 10 Carmen Mlodzinski, who all appeared with Triple-A Indianapolis this summer.

The 6-foot-7 shortstop was originally signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2015 and came over to the Pirates in a trade for reliever Tony Watson at the 2017 trade deadline. He's known for his major-league arm and immense power potential.
