The Pittsburgh Pirates haven't had a lot to be happy about this season. At 20-33, they sit at the bottom of the NL Central and trail the first-place Chicago Cubs by 10.0 games. Considering that they're also 2-8 in their last 10 games, it doesn't seem like the Pirates will claw back into a playoff race anytime soon. In other words: they'll take any shred of positivity that they can get.

Fortunately, the Pirates got some great news on Monday regarding third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes' latest injury update. In a season that's been marred by bad news, this bit of positivity is more than welcomed by Pittsburgh and its fanbase.

Ke'Bryan Hayes Injury Update

Hayes has been out of the lineup since April 4 with an injured wrist. The hope was that he wouldn't miss too much time, but he was transferred to the 60-day injured list on May 9. The good news is that it's looking like things are progressing. Pirates manager Derek Shelton said on Friday that the team will activate Hayes as soon as he's eligible, which would be on Thursday, June 3.

Hayes only managed to play two games in his sophomore season before ending up on the injured list. The hope is that, when he comes back, he'll look a lot like he did in his rookie campaign.

Through 85 at-bats in 2020, Hayes recorded 32 hits for 7 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs and 11 RBI. He was also impressively slashing .376/.442/.682, which isn't something you see too often from first-year players. Considering the fact that he finished 6th in NL Rookie of the Year voting, the Pirates probably have high hopes for Hayes once he returns.

With over half of the season left to play, the Pirates are a longshot to win their division at +20000 odds, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Even if Pittsburgh doesn't make the playoffs, seeing Hayes return and blossom would make the remainder of the season a lot more palatable for Pirates fans everywhere.
