Update (2:20 p.m. EST, Thursday, Oct. 29): Phillip Lindsay returned to the Denver Broncos' team practice on Thursday. This news puts him on track to suit up for Week 8, though there's still nothing concrete. Lindsay would be an appealing low-end RB2 option assuming he suits up, while his return would make Melvin Gordon more of a FLEX option this week.
Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay suffered a concussion against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7, and he remains in concussion protocol. Unless he gets cleared in the next few days, Lindsay will miss the team's Week 8 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
If Lindsay can't go, Melvin Gordon would serve as the Broncos' lead back against his former team on Sunday.
Phillip Lindsay Fantasy Outlook
The injury comes at a bad time for Lindsay, as he was really starting to take control of the backfield. He dominated when Gordon was out in Week 6, turning 23 carries into 101 rushing yards against the New England Patriots. The third-year back also turned 9 carries into 79 yards in Week 7, though he exited after getting through just 14 snaps.
Lindsay's efficiency makes him worth holding onto, but he's probably not going to be back until next week.
Melvin Gordon Fantasy Outlook
Gordon has played three games without Lindsay, and the results were pretty encouraging. In that three-game stretch, Gordon turned 20.7 opportunities (16.7 carries plus 4.0 targets) into 80.0 yards from scrimmage per game with 3 total TDs in that time.
Notably, he faced both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Pittsburgh Steelers during that period, and they're the leagues two-best run defenses in just about every category. Things should be much easier for him against the Chargers.
Los Angeles has a pretty average run defense, sitting at No. 17 in Football Outsiders' DVOA metrics. If Gordon is going to handle another massive workload, he could be poised for a big showing in a revenge game against his former team.
Gordon will be a rock-solid RB2 if Lindsay can't go in Week 8.
