The Philadelphia Phillies are getting a key player back from the injured list on Tuesday, and not a moment too soon.

Outfielder Nick Castellanos was activated from the 10-day IL on Tuesday ahead of the Phillies' series opener against the Chicago Cubs. Catcher Donny Sands was sent down to Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding roster move.

Nick Castellanos Injury Update

Castellanos has missed the last four weeks with a right oblique injury, but he's finally ready to return. He did not go on a rehab assignment after working out last week, opting to come back to the team as soon as possible.

Philadelphia Phillies News

Despite losing Castellanos for nearly all of September, Philadelphia managed to stay alive in the playoff race without him. The Phillies hold a 1.5-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers for the third Wild Card spot in the National League entering play on Tuesday.

Philadelphia still needs to close out the regular season strong to secure its first playoff berth since 2011, and the hope is that Castellanos' return will provide a spark. The former All-Star and Silver Slugger recipient has struggled in his first season with the Phillies, but that will quickly be forgiven if he comes up with a big hit or two over the next week.

While the NL Wild Card race is far from over, Philadelphia has -650 odds of making the postseason on FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds.
