The Philadelphia Phillies could be getting a valuable bullpen boost heading into a NLCS matchup against the San Diego Padres. Veteran reliever David Robertson is making progress in his recovery from a calf strain and threw off a mound on Monday. His status is trending in the right direction.

David Robertson Injury Update

Manager Rob Thomson explained that Robertson took part in some agility drills and fielding practice with the rest of the pitchers in addition to his work on the mound. The 37-year-old was working out during Thomson's media availability, which means no update was provided in terms of how it all went.

Robertson was left off the NLDS roster and Thomson said the All-Star hurler would need to be a "full go" if the Phillies want to add him to the NLCS roster before first pitch on Tuesday night. The risk of having to wait a day or two before he is healthy enough to play wouldn't be worth it.

There's no denying that Jose Alvarado, Zach Eflin and Seranthony Dominguez have held up their end of the bargain in the bullpen this postseason. Robertson was one of the Phillies' best relievers down the stretch in the regular season, though. His stability as a late-inning option cannot be understated.

Robertson joined the Phillies at the trade deadline in August and finished the season with a 2.70 ERA to go along with 6 saves in 22 appearances. His calf strain popped up after he went a bit too far when celebrating slugger Bryce Harper's pivotal home run in a Game 2 victory during the Wild Card Round.

Philadelphia has odds set at -105 to advance to the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
