It's been more than three weeks since Nick Castellanos last played for the Philadelphia Phillies, but it appears that he is finally nearing a return from the injured list.

Castellanos hasn't played since Sept. 2 due to a right oblique injury, but his latest injury update suggests he may be able to come back during Philadelphia's series against the Chicago Cubs next week, which begins on Tuesday.

Castellanos, 30, will work out on Saturday and Sunday this weekend. If that goes well, he may not need to go on a rehab assignment and could be back with the Phillies as soon as next week.

The 2021 All-Star's return could provide a significant boost to a Philadelphia team that currently holds one of the three Wild Card spots in the National League. With 12 games still remaining on the schedule, however, nothing is guaranteed yet.

The former Silver Slugger recipient was having a down season by his standards before going on the IL, batting just .265/.305/.397 with 13 home runs and 61 RBIs in 128 games. He's typically one of the game's better hitters when healthy, however, so he could still provide a spark to the Phillies as they try to secure their first postseason berth since 2011.

As it stands, Philadelphia has -1300 odds of making the playoffs on FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds.
