Three days after losing Jean Segura to a strained right quad that requires a stint on the IL, the Philadelphia Phillies will likely have Didi Gregorius back in the lineup. Gregorius is set to make his return after missing three games with an elbow issue.
Didi Gregorius Injury Update
Manager Joe Girardi said he expects to have his starting shortstop play against the Colorado Rockies Friday after getting news Segura will be out until at least May.
Segura was off to a good start, hitting .333 in 60 at-bats, while Gregorius is hitting .296 with two home runs and ten RBIs. Nick Maton was filling in during Didi's absence but won't head right back to the bench. Because of Segura's injury, Maton will get some time at second base with Brad Miller when the former Yankee returns on Friday.
It hasn't been easy for Girardi early on this year as the Phillies have had multiple injuries in the past week and a half. Add that to the five coaches to enter COVID-19 protocols, and the former Marlins manager has to be happy with a 9-9 record and to be just a 0.5 game back of the New York Mets for the division lead.
