Didi Gregorius has had a rough go of things in 2021. In 32 appearances, Gregorius is hitting .229 on the year. That's the second-worst mark of his career, behind only 2014, when he hit .226. He also hasn't played since May 12 due to an elbow issue.
While he was technically eligible to come off the IL today, recent reports have indicated that he won't be activated. And it sounds like he's not particularly close to a return.
This is understandably a big blow to Philadelphia. The team is currently sitting in third place in the NL East with a 23-24 record. The Phillies will likely need a healthy Gregorius in order to make a real run.
The former Yankee was tremendous for the team last season. He slashed .284/.339/.488 with 10 home runs and 40 RBI through 60 games.
If that guy can show up again in 2021, perhaps the Phillies could make a real run at the division crown. Philadelphia currently has the third-best odds to win the division in 2021 at +450, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
