One of the trendiest names in the final month leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft is Alabama quarterback Mac Jones.

Jones was generally projected to go in the mid to late first round as recently as the beginning of the NFL offseason, but the buzz is now that he could go as high as No. 3 overall to the San Francisco 49ers, and he appears to be locked in as a top-10 pick.

Carolina Panthers Mock Draft

The latest mock draft from Pro Football Focus has Jones landing with a team that hasn't been connected to him much, however, in the Carolina Panthers at No. 8 overall.

It's no secret that the Panthers are in the quarterback market, apparently already willing to give up on Teddy Bridgewater.

With four quarterbacks projected to go off the board in the first four picks in this mock, the Panthers' hands are all but tied. If Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields and Trey Lance are all gone by the time Carolina is on the clock, its options are basically to draft Mac Jones, to address a different position, or to trade down. The gap between the top five quarterbacks and the top QB of the next tier (Florida's Kyle Trask) is that significant.
