Pete Carroll Planning Major Change for Geno Smith in Week 3

Spirits were high in Seattle after the Seahawks' Week 1 win over the Denver Broncos, but they came crashing back down following a Week 2 blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Head coach Pete Carroll isn't afraid to make the necessary changes to improve, however, and it starts with quarterback Geno Smith.
Is it time to let Geno Smith cook? Pete Carroll believes it's time to let Smith open it up: “We don’t need to hold him back at all. I think Geno’s got his game ready to go.” https://t.co/AlY9OcsoP2 pic.twitter.com/ocUGLTLski

Seattle Seahawks News
Carroll told reporters on Tuesday that Smith's "got his game ready to go" and suggested that Seattle may air it out a bit more moving forward. Through two weeks, the veteran signal-caller leads NFL QBs with an 81.0% completion rate but is only averaging 196.0 passing yards per game.
Short-yardage passing plays are only going to go so far in a league that has become all about chunk gains. The Seahawks have run the fewest plays in football so far (96) and have not scored on offense since the second quarter of Week 1. There's little reason not to let Smith try to perfect his deep ball.
Fans got a glimpse of Smith's arm in a trick play that resulted in a 49-yard completion to wide receiver D.K. Metcalf in Week 2 that was unfortunately wiped out by a penalty. It's worth noting Metcalf hasn't looked as dominant this season as he has in the past, racking up only 71 receiving yards on 11 receptions (13 targets).
Falcons vs Seahawks Week 3 Odds
The Atlanta Falcons have allowed the fifth-most first downs via the pass in 2022 (28), so look for Smith to target that weakness when he faces off against them in Week 3. Seattle is slated as a 1.5-point home favorite with odds set at -126 on the moneyline, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
