Detroit Lions' offensive lineman Penei Sewell is expected to play a major role on the team after being selected No. 7 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. His rookie season is sure to have some ups and downs, but Sewell did get to meet with a former legendary Lions wide receiver in Calvin Johnson recently.
Penei Sewell Meets With Calvin Johnson
This is an especially cool moment after learning Sewell grew up a Lions fan specifically because of Johnson. He used to play as the talented pass-catcher in the Madden video game growing up and then began following the team to keep up with Johnson's career in real life.
This is also a great sign for Johnson as it looks like he is open to interacting with the Detroit organization once again. Things were left in a bit of a rocky state when Johnson decided to retire from football back in 2016 at the age of 30 and he was forced to return part of his signing bonus.
Overall, Johnson totaled 11,786 yards from scrimmage and scored 84 touchdowns over his nine-year NFL career with the Lions. He will be inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame later this year and Sewell will start working towards that same goal when his career kicks off in the fall.
All things considered, this was a pretty amazing way for Sewell to meet one of his childhood idols.
