While the series between the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins feels like it has been one-sided lately, it has been a close one overall, with the Dolphins leading 56-53. The recent series has also been closer than most would assume, with the two splitting the games from the past three seasons.
The Patriots could have the edge in Week 1 though, as the team is a 6.5-point home favorite, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Dolphins vs Patriots Spread Week 1
Both AFC East teams are undergoing a lot of change heading into the 2020 NFL season. Most notably, the quarterback position on both teams is currently a question mark. The Dolphins drafted Tua Tagovailoa, but he may not be ready for Week 1. The Patriots, on the other hand, have decided to stick with what they have, likely starting second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham.
The changes for Miami do not stop at quarterback. With six draft picks in the top 70, the Dolphins have a lot of young talent, which is good long term, but could lead to early season dysfunction.
The Patriots have more question marks this season than they have had in decades. Aside from the quarterback question, the team still has question marks in their receiving corps, and they had a number of defensive starters leave, without many established veterans coming in.
The Patriots look more vulnerable than ever before under Bill Belichick, but most people have a tough time counting them out. Despite so much uncertainty, they are clear favorites in their Week 1 matchup.
