Patrick Mahomes Opens as Early Favorite to Win 2020 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award

The 2019 NFL season may be over, but the Kansas City Chiefs are already racking up plenty of hypothetical offseason wins to go with their Super Bowl Championship.
FanDuel Sportsbook has them set with the highest win total over/under and as early favorites to win Super Bowl 55. And now Patrick Mahomes is getting in on the action, as the favorite to win MVP (+380) and Offensive Player of the Year (+650).

Mahomes last took home Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2018, when he threw for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns across 16 starts. His numbers weren't quite as gaudy in 2019 (4,031 yards and 26 touchdowns), though injuries limited him to just 14 games.
If we exclude Week 7, when he left early with his knee injury, Mahomes was still on a 16-game pace for 4,868 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2019. Not as impressive as 2018, but still marks that would have both ranked third among all passers. The only other QB who would have joined him in the top three for both was Jameis Winston, who threw for 29 more interceptions.
Still dealing with a loaded skill position group that includes Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce and Damien Williams, there's no reason to believe that Mahomes is due to regress.
Trailing Mahomes in the odds are Lamar Jackson (+950), Christian McCaffrey (+1300), Russell Wilson (+1600), Saquon Barkley (+1800) and 2019 winner Michael Thomas (+1800). Nobody else has odds better than +2000.
There's still plenty of time for these odds to move as the offseason progresses and the NFL landscape continues to shift, but for now this is yet another reason for Chiefs fans to carry a ton of optimism into the 2020 season.
