Ever since becoming the Kansas City Chief's starting quarterback, Patrick Mahomes has become one of the best to throw a football in the NFL. He's constantly near the top of the fantasy leaderboards, finishing as the QB4 last year across all formats.

This offseason, Mahomes lost his favorite wide receiver in Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins. Naturally, fantasy managers are wondering if the former league MVP can still succeed without Hill.

Patrick Mahomes Fantasy Football Outlook

As usual, Mahomes is expected to be one of the best QBs in fantasy once again. There shouldn't be any surprise behind that, though. He's averaged 4,676.8 passing yards and 37.8 touchdowns in four full-time seasons as the Chiefs' No. 1 gunslinger. Few QBs can even dream of putting up similar numbers.

Even though Hill is gone, Mahomes still has all-time great tight end Travis Kelce at his disposal. On top of that, the Chiefs also signed wideouts JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling to help, while rookie Skyy Moore and the returning Mecole Hardman should also provide plenty of help.

As it stands, Fantasy Pros ranks Mahomes as the QB2 across the board while the Buffalo Bills' Josh Allen is the sole signal-caller ahead of him. Mahomes is also listed as having an average draft position of 33.0, which sees him likely being drafted towards the end of Round 3 or the beginning of Round 4.

Patrick Mahomes Projections

Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook are quite high on Mahomes. He's presently in a three-way tie for the third-best odds (+800) to lead the NFL in passing yards, only behind Justin Herbert (+700). He's also in another three-way tie, this time to league leader in passing TDs (+700).

FanDuel is also listing Mahomes' projected passing yards total at 4,550.5 with -112 odds on both the over and under. He's surpassed that mark in three of the last four seasons, including in each of the last two.

Mahomes' projected passing touchdown total sits at 34.5, again with -112 odds for the over and under. While losing Hill certainly hurts, the Tyler, TX native has averaged 37.8 TDs thrown over the last four years.

Is Patrick Mahomes a Good Fantasy Football Pick?

Though the NFL has several top-tier quarterbacks, few deliver consistently like Mahomes. He's one of the players that rarely put up any stinkers, making him someone that you can count on in pretty much any matchup.

Even though Hill's absence will be felt at times, Mahomes is good enough to make do with what he has. Obviously, his performance will depend on Smith-Schuster and Valdes-Scantling's transition to the Chiefs, but the sky is the limit if things turn out as well as they look on paper.
