With Myles Gaskin officially out in Week 17, Patrick Laird is likely slated for a significant role in the Miami Dolphins’ game against the New England Patriots.

Since Week 13, Laird is averaging 9.9 PPR points per game, but he hasn't exactly been consistent. During that four-game stretch, Laird has finished above 12.0 PPR points twice, though he's also had two games with fewer than 8.0 PPR points.

Even so, Gaskin had played at least 35 percent of the snaps in each of the last two games, so Laird should be in line for a heavy workload this week. De’Lance Turner is the only other healthy back on the roster who has seen a snap for Miami this season. He saw five last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, while Semaje Perine was only signed from the Bengals practice squad this week.

Laird has the solidified role at this point, but whether or not he’ll be able to issue significant returns is a completely different story. The Patriots allow the fewest PPR points per game to opposing running backs, and are the No. 1 defense by Football Outsiders' DVOA metric.

The heavy workload will likely give Laird a decent floor against New England, but he certainly doesn't project as a high-ceiling option. Laird checks in at RB32 in our Week 17 PPR rankings.
