When you think of the top wide receivers in the NFL during the late 2000's, there's likely a few names that come to mind. No doubt that Steve Smith, the former Carolina Panther, is one of the names on that list.

Smith is the greatest wide receiver in Panthers' franchise history. The stats back it up, as Smith sits atop the leaderboard in career receptions (836), receiving yards (12,197) and touchdowns (67). Well, Panthers fans will be thrilled to learned that Smith is coming back for an exciting new role with Carolina this preseason.

The Panthers announced that Smith will be joining the play-by-play team for the Panthers TV Network, operating as the analyst for three preseason games later this summer. He'll operate alongside Taylor Zarzour, the new play-by-play man for Carolina.

Smith is no stranger to the broadcast world as he currently works as an analyst for the NFL Network. It's quite exciting to imagine Smith, who spent 13 seasons catching touchdowns for the Panthers, taking on a new role with the franchise.
