Panthers Hire Former Head Coach to Senior Assistant Role

The Carolina Panthers are continuing to fill out the remainder of new head coach Frank Reich's staff. Carolina has already nabbed a pair of key defensive minds from the Denver Broncos in defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and top assistant Peter Hansen.

On Tuesday, the Panthers continued a trend of bringing in accomplished NFL minds to join Reich's new staff. They brought in former head coach Jim Caldwell to operate as a key senior assistant.

Caldwell will be an important assistant for Reich, according to reports. The former Detroit Lions' top coach will assist Reich on all three facets of the game: offense, defense and special teams.

Reich has deep ties to Caldwell as the two crossed paths during a stint with the Indianapolis Colts working under Tony Dungy.

Another interesting twist to Caldwell's hire is that he was actually given an interview for the Panthers' open head coaching role prior to Reich's hiring. It seems as if Caldwell is eager to help the Carolina franchise reach new heights under a complete overhaul of the coaching staff.
