The Carolina Panthers have been monitoring the health status of starting cornerback Jaycee Horn this week. Horn continues to deal with a hip injury that caused him to play just 69% of the defensive snaps in Week 5.
The situation got complicated on Friday when a pair of conflicting reports emerged for Horn's Week 6 status. Fans finally got their answer for the situation on Saturday afternoon, but it's not good news for the defense.
Panthers insider Steve Reed reported that Horn was officially ruled out for Sunday's clash with the Los Angeles Rams. CB Stantley Thomas-Oliver was also placed on the IR while the team elevated QB Jacob Eason and CB Tae Hayes from the practice squad.
This is a tough loss for a Panthers squad ranking middle of the pack in terms of secondary play. While the unit ranks just 22nd in Football Outsiders' pass-defense DVOA metric, they've allowed the 17th-fewest passing yards across the NFL.
LA's passing offense isn't performing up to expectations, but it's hard to ignore the chemistry between Matthew Stafford and the league's second-leading receiver in Cooper Kupp (527).
Carolina enters this Week 6 clash as heavy 10-point road underdogs, per NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
