The Carolina Panthers have made it very clear this offseason that they are not sold on Teddy Bridgewater as their franchise quarterback.

While the chances they trade for Deshaun Watson appear to be diminishing by the day, they could still make a big splash at the position.

ESPN expert Mel Kiper has them doing just that with a draft-day trade in his latest 2021 NFL Mock Draft.

Panthers Mock Draft

Kiper has the Panthers trading with the Miami Dolphins to move from No. 8 to No. 3 in the first-round, and with that pick he projects them to select Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields.

It's not going to be cheap to jump five spots in the top-10 of a loaded draft, but we've seen time and time again how much the fate of a franchise can hang on the quarterback position.

In some draft years, Fields would have been in the conversation as the No. 1 overall pick. He's sharing the spotlight with elite prospects like Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson in 2021, but that doesn't make Fields any less exciting a prospect himself.

With 63 touchdowns and 5,373 yards through the air plus 15 touchdowns and 867 yards on the ground over the last two seasons, Fields fits the mold of what you want in a modern quarterback, and he has the potential to instantly elevate this Carolina offense while also spending years growing in Matt Rhule's system.
