The last four weeks of the 2021 NFL season have been painful for Christian McCaffrey and the Carolina Panthers. McCaffrey hasn't played since Week 3 when he went down with a hamstring injury. Carolina is 0-4 since losing McCaffrey, who was placed on the injured reserve ahead of Week 6.
Christian McCaffrey Injury Update
Sunday's Week 7 loss may have been the worst of the year. Carolina traveled to New York to take on a bad Giants team and got smacked, 25-3. The offense showed zero life with 173 yards of total offense and Sam Darnold continued to struggle without his dynamic playmaking teammate in the backfield.
Darnold lit up the league through the first three weeks, touting a 99.0 passer rating with 888 passing yards and 3 touchdowns to 1 interception. His rating has fallen to 61.2 from Weeks 4-7 (without McCaffrey) and the first-year Panthers gunslinger has thrown just 4 TDs to 7 INTs.
McCaffrey's IR placement means he won't be eligible to return until after Week 8. If the 3-4 Panthers have any hopes of turning things around, McCaffrey will have to come back healthy and be his usual self.
In three games, McCaffrey rushed for 201 yards and a touchdown while catching 16 passes for 163 receiving yards. Carolina went from averaging 23 points per game on offense to just 19.25 since McCaffrey's absence.
