The San Diego Padres have gotten off to an up-and-down start this season, sitting 18-15 and in second place in the NL West. The oddsmakers are still extremely high on the team's collection of talent though, giving San Diego the third-best odds to win the 2021 World Series.
If the Padres hope to make good on all that promise, they'll likely need catcher Austin Nola to be healthy. Nola, who already missed a good chunk of the season with a fractured finger, was hit by a pitch on Friday and had to leave the game.
But thankfully, it doesn't sound like the injury will keep him sidelined for too long.
Austin Nola Injury Update
Nola is dealing with a broken blood vessel from the errant pitch, but the X-rays on his hand were negative. It sounds like he could miss a little more time, but it doesn't sound like he's looking at an extended absence.
That's great news for San Diego, as it could really use his bat back in the lineup. Nola is an above-average hitter at catcher, having slashed .273/.353/.472 for the Padres and Seattle Mariners in 2020.
Having a healthy Nola could set this team up for a second-half explosion.
