The San Diego Padres have announced their starting lineup for Game 3 of the 2022 NL Wild Card Series against the New York Mets. The do-or-die playoff game will take place at Citi Field in New York at 7:07 p.m. ET, with the winner advancing to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS.
Padres Game 3 Lineup
The Padres are running back the same lineup that won them Game 1 against Max Scherzer. San Diego cruised to a 7-1 victory after slamming four home runs off the three-time Cy Young winner, so perhaps the offense can recapture that mojo on Sunday after being held to just 3 runs and 6 hits on Saturday.
The only difference for the Padres is at starting pitcher, where Joe Musgrove will take the mound. Musgrove was an All-Star in 2022, going 10-7 with a 2.93 ERA and earning a five-year, $100 million contract extension. The 29-year-old righty was lights-out down the stretch for San Diego, posting a 0.41 ERA over his final four starts of the regular season.
This will be Musgrove's first career postseason start, although he does have playoff experience from his time with the Houston Astros. Musgrove struggled out of the bullpen during their 2017 title run, logging an 8.10 ERA in seven appearances.
The Padres will need Musgrove to pitch better than that if they're going to get past the Mets. San Diego is currently listed as a +122 moneyline underdog for Game 3 on FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds.
