Packers Writer Predicts Surprise 2020 Breakout Player in the Green Bay Offense

Most analysts expected the Green Bay Packers to address the wide receiver position in either the NFL Draft or free agency. That famously didn't really happen, aside from the addition of Devin Funchess (who opted out of the 2020 season anyway).
But one Packers' beat writer, Bill Huber, suggests that they might be able to address the position internally. Allen Lazard appears poised to command the starting job opposite of Davante Adams in 2020.

Matt LaFleur said he shows the team clips of Lazard on offense & special teams because of his effort level.

That Lazard has apparently leapfrogged Marquez Valdes-Scantling is a big of a surprise. Over the past two seasons, MVS has logged 1,233 snaps while Lazard has only played 480. Notably, MVS also out-snapped Lazard in 2019.
Lazard's box-score stats weren't particularly eye popping, but there was a lot to like. He received a stellar 72.3 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, which was the second-best among Packers wideouts. It was also much higher than Valdes-Scantling's 57.0 grade.

Perhaps with a full season as Green Bay's No. 2 wide receiver, a breakout campaign could be coming for Lazard in year three.
