While the Chicago Cubs continue working on rounding out their roster for the 2023 MLB season, another piece of roster construction went down on Friday. Teams attempted to reach arbitration settlements with key young players on their respective rosters, including the Cubs.

It was revealed Friday that Chicago reached an arbitration settlement with middle infielder Nico Hoerner.

Hoerner and the Cubs settled for one year, worth $2.5 million.

This has been an interesting offseason for Hoerner. Chicago made their blockbuster move to acquire shortstop Dansby Swanson from the Atlanta Braves via free agency. Swanson will take over full-time shortstop duties, likely moving Hoerner to second base.

Hoerner played a full season in 2022, making appearances in 135 games and boasting a solid .281/.327/.410 slash line.
