While it hasn't necessarily shown in their record, the Baltimore Orioles have had some positive signs to point to this year and in the future. Unfortunately, one of those pieces of the future, pitching prospect Grayson Rodriguez, will potentially be out for the rest of the season with a Grade 2 right lat strain.

He could return in September, but the team could also elect to play things safe with the young pitcher.

Grayson Rodriguez Injury Update

Rodriguez is one of the best overall prospects in baseball, part of an Orioles farm system that had plenty of talent to start the year, where Rodriguez ranked No. 8 overall.

It's all compounded by the fact that Rodriguez was off to a fantastic start this year, going 5-1 with a 2.09 ERA in 11 starts for AAA Norfolk. Regardless, the Orioles have to protect his and their future despite how tough of a pill this might be to swallow.

The Orioles aren't close to competing for a World Series anytime soon, so they can afford to be patient with Rodriguez. Baltimore currently has +100000 odds to win the 2022 World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
